Overcoming single-source problems

Kurt Ament provides practical tips for indexing "single-source" documents at the WritersUA website. Single-source while often cost-effective for a company, can result in documentation that is overly compromised for the various formats in which it is published. If written with a print orientation, the onscreen version is unwieldily. If it's optimized for onscreen, the book can be hard to follow when read apart from the software. To this end the WritersUA article encourages the creation of indexes that are appropriate for their intended environment. A philosophy that would be well-applied throughout any single-source publication.
